Goal Setting:
Building Your Pathway to Success

The Six Ps for Success
Success isn’t one big moment. It’s built through the choices, habits, and work athletes repeat every day. At the Northern Light Sports Player Academy, we believe there are six principles that create a pathway to success.

The Six Ps for Success
PASSION — Love What You Do
Put your heart into the work. Passion provides the energy to keep improving when the work gets difficult and quitting would be easier.
PURPOSE — Know Your Why
Understand what you are working toward. Goals give us direction, but championships, batting averages, and statistics are outcomes. Your purpose should guide what you do today.
PRIORITY — Control What Matters
Spend your time and energy on what matters most. Focus on what you can control: your effort, attitude, preparation, response, and work habits.
PROCESS — Win the Day
Learn to love the daily work. Don't become consumed by results. Concentrate on your approach, routines, repetitions, and details. Stack good days together.
PREPARATION — Earn Your Confidence
Wanting to succeed isn't enough. Confidence comes from knowing you've prepared. Practice with purpose so that when your opportunity arrives, you're ready.
PERSEVERANCE — Keep Going
Every athlete will experience failure, adversity, and disappointment. Don't run from those moments. Learn from them, adjust, and continue working.
The Academy Standard
Passion gives you energy.
Purpose gives you direction.
Priority gives you focus.
Process creates improvement.
Preparation creates confidence.
Perseverance keeps you moving forward.
The Six Ps aren't just about becoming a better player. They're about becoming a better person.
The beginning of the fall semester is a fresh start. For student-athletes, it’s the perfect time to ask a simple question: Where do I want to be when this semester ends?
Success rarely happens by accident. Whether your goal is becoming a better hitter, earning more playing time, improving your grades, transferring to a four-year school, or simply becoming a better teammate, it starts by establishing a direction.
At the Northern Light Sports Player Academy, we encourage athletes to set goals in five areas: mechanical and skill development, performance, strategy and execution, mental preparation, and personal growth.
But writing down a goal isn't enough. Every goal needs a pathway.
Make it specific and measurable. Develop an action plan. Set short-, medium-, and long-term targets. Most importantly, establish goals for your daily practice and preparation, because those are the things you can control.
Don't be afraid to adjust along the way. A bad game, difficult practice, or disappointing result doesn't mean the goal has failed. Failure is information. Learn from it, make an adjustment
